How To Dispose of Propane Cylinders

Think twice before tossing them to the curb

Let’s say the propane cylinder that you have been using has seen better days. Maybe it’s damaged or simply not working as well as it once did. So the time has come to officially get rid of it. Do you know how to do so safely and properly?

If not Sierra Propane is happy to help you out!

What to do when it’s time to get rid of a propane cylinder

Although you might think of a damaged or old propane cylinder as trash you cannot get rid of it the same you get rid of your normal trash and recycling. To properly and safely dispose of a propane cylinder here are your options:

• Bring your old tank to a professional propane supplier
• Depending on where you live you may have a local hazardous waste collection program that can come pick up your old tank
• Check with your local hardware stores and local scrap metal dealers to see if you can drop off your old cylinder there so that they can then properly dispose of it
• Bring them to a nearby recycling center, transfer station or public works department.

Proper disposal of a propane cylinder helps to keep both you and sanitation workers safe and free of injuries. Propane tanks that still have gas inside of them can cause a fire or an explosion so you absolutely want to make sure you are following protocol when it comes time to get rid of them.

How you can boost business with propane cylinders

Here at Sierra Propane we offer Arizona and New Mexico based business owners two convenient ways that they can start selling their own propane cylinders at their gas stations, hardware stores, convenience stores or RV parks.

The first option is to have Sierra Propane set up a propane cylinder cage right at your own retail operation. This is referred to as a cylinder exchange. Sierra Propane will work with you to figure out the safest place for your company’s exchange cage, we’ll do a quick installation, train your employees on how to safely handle cylinders and then we’ll set you up with an automatic cylinder exchange schedule that will keep you fuel supply fully stocked. A propane cylinder exchange makes tank exchanges quick and convenient.

You can also choose to go with our cylinder refill station option. Sierra Propane will set up a propane cylinder refill station (otherwise called a bottle dock) at your business where your customers can come to fill up their propane tanks when they are empty or low on fuel. Just like we do with the cylinder exchange program, we’ll handle installation and training your employees on proper handling and refilling procedures. We’ll also provide automatic deliveries to keep your bottle dock tank full.

With whatever option you choose your business will see positive results thanks to this new revenue stream. You’ll be bringing in new customers and driving up foot traffic!

Contact Sierra Propane and we’ll get you started with setting up either a propane cylinder exchange or a refill station at your Arizona or New Mexico business today.
